Historic Preservation Commission Activities

Below are projects and activities the Historic Preservation Commission is involved with.

  • Compile/document local history
  • Manage designation of historic districts on the State and National Registers
  • Hold public sessions
  • Coordinate district signs and plaques
  • Communicate designations via newspaper articles, etc.
  • Recommend historic road sign names
  • Review road improvements affecting historic districts/structures
  • Work with other Commissions (Environmental, Morris Canal, etc.)
  • Participate in township/local events
  • Manage historic displays
  • Photograph historic structures
  • Participate on Open Space Commission (mapping historic areas)
  • Participate in historic site surveys
  • Recommend protection of historic structures
  • Review Historic Plan Element component of the Master Plan
