WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP
 RECREATION COMMISSION MINUTES
FEBRUARY 1, 2005

Adequate notice of this meeting, in accordance with the Open Public Meeting Act, has been given by posting one copy of Notice of Meeting in the Washington Township Administrative office, by making copies to the "Express Times" and "Star Gazette,” and to the municipal clerk in Washington Township.

The regular meeting of the Recreation Commission was called to order at 8:50 p.m.

Guest: M. Kovacs, R. Flint and K. Rothman

APPROVAL OF MINUTES

The Regular Meeting minutes of January 13, 2005 were approved as written. 

ELECTION OF RECREATION COMMISSION SECRETARY

After some discussion, a motion was made by S. Fritts seconded by M. Kries to appoint Joe DeFranza as Secretary.  All were in favor.

MEADOW BREEZE PARK

A few minor items left on finishing the restrooms will be completed when the weather gets warmer. P. deBoer will be moving forward on getting quotes for the timer locks and security lights for the restrooms.

OLD BUSINESS

Prior to the meeting being called to order M. Kovacs, F. Loughlin and R. Flint met with Kate Rothman, candidate for the position of WTRC Administrator, to answer questions regarding the position.  After interviewing the candidate, the position was offered to her.  She will let F. Loughlin know by February 2, 2005 whether or not she agreed to accept the position.

The revised park drawings with all the facilities labeled on them were  provided by  Bob Miller, Township Engineer.   They were reviewed once again and accepted by the Commission.   Mary Buyofski recommend they also be put on the Township website.  We will discuss putting them on the Township website at our next meeting.

Horseshoe Court Lighting - S. Fritts and M. Kries were going to meet with L. Wasser to determine the status of this project.  The status will be discussed at our next meeting and determine if this project is a priority for 2005.

The spring field scheduling meeting has been set for February 28, 2005 at 7:30 p.m. at the Police/Municipal Building.  A notice will be sent out to all interested parties as request for fields are already beginning to come in.

The reconstruction of the old baseball shed was completed.  M. Buyofski will find out where the Youth Association wants it to be located.

The walking path extension still needs to be laid out and a presentation developed for a future Township Committee meeting.  Further discussion in this effect will take place at our next meeting. Additionally, the WTRC will have further discussion regarding projects that are a priority for 2005.

The riparian buffer project along Brass Castle Creek started on January 20, 2005.  Plantings being done along the creek should be completed on or around April 18th.  

FINANCIAL & BUDGET REVIEW

Review potential projects for 2005.  A decision regarding priorities will take place at the next meeting.

ACTIVE AREAS UPDATE

Nothing to report at this time.

PASSIVE AREAS UPDATE

Nothing to report at this time.

NEW BUSINESS

There was some discussion regarding the present WTRC fee structure.  It was determined to further discuss this matter at the next meeting to determine what changes, if any, are needed.

The following dates were set for members of the WTRC to attend Township Committee meetings.

March 15, 2005 - Ray Berrie                                    July 19, 2005 - Darleen Schott

April 18, 2005 (Monday) - Scott Backer                  August 16, 2005 - Steve Fritts

May 17, 2005 - Mary Buyofski                                  September 20, 2005 - Mel Kries

Having no further business to discuss the meeting was adjourned.
