Zoning Officer: Thomas A. Bocko

Purpose & Intent
The  purpose of zoning is to establish a pattern for the use of land and buildings in the Township of Washington based on the township's Master Plan. A Master Plan is enacted to promote and protect the public health, safety and general welfare of the people, pursuant to the Municipal Land Use Law (N.J.S.A.  40:55D - 1 et seq.).

Applicants:
A zoning permit is required when applying for any new construction, alteration, addition, change in use,  and/or accessory structure. It is important that the applicant plan ahead and, when applying for a zoning permit, obtain and bring along a scaled,  accurate plot plan or survey of the property in question. The applicant may complete the one-page application at the Zoning Office. If all items are in order, the zoning officer will issue a zoning clearance, which allows  the applicant to apply for a building permit. Building permits are issued by the Code Enforcement Office, (908) 713-0722.
